Fota Wildlife Park's Carnivore Week will be commencing this coming Saturday August 22nd and will run until the 30th August with all sorts of carnivore related events happening across the park.
We are running an exciting carnivore trail with fantastic prizes up for grabs including an annual Conservation Membership (worth €155) and three family day passes (worth €56 each). All you have to do is answer twelve simple questions, with the answers hidden around the park, and you could be in with a chance of winning.
But it doesn't stop there. In addition to this our information staff will be giving interactive carnivore talks throughout the day at our new Information Hut. If you've ever wanted to see what our animals eat come and check it out. Also on display will be many interesting props from our education centre. Our Animal Antics Activity Staff will also be doing special arts & crafts, face painting, storytelling and puppet shows each day.
Why are we doing this? Well, as members of the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) Fota Wildlife Park are helping with the annual conservation campaign. While last year EAZA focused on amphibians, this year all eyes are on the carnivores of Europe. These carnivores have suffered badly over the centuries as Europe's human population has expanded. They have lost much of their natural habitat and are being persecuted due to people's ignorance and intolerance. As a result carnivore numbers across Europe are declining.
So, in order to raise awareness about their plight, change peoples attitudes and to collect money for their conservation Fota Wildlife Park has decided to run a European Carnivore Campaign Week! Please come and join in!
