FOTA WILDLIFE PARK RECEIVES PRESTIGOUS SANDFORD AWARD

Fota Wildlife Park has the Education Heritage Approval

Linda McSweeney, Education Manager at Fota Wildlife Park, has received a Sandford Award for excellence in Heritage Education.

The Sandford Awards scheme was established by Lord Sandford and was pioneered to promote an acceptable standard of educational provision that schools should seek while visiting heritage education areas. The Award Scheme currently encompasses 150 historic sites within the historical and cultural environments of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Linda McSweeney is committed to ensuring that Fota Wildlife Park offers the highest standard of Heritage Education for the many school groups who visit Fota Wildlife Park.

Speaking about the award, Linda McSweeney said: "Receiving such a prestigious award is extremely important for Fota Wildlife Park. The award demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that Fota is a highly successful Heritage Education facility for our visitors, especially our many school groups who visit us. At Fota Wildlife Park we collectively offer children from all backgrounds the potential to learn. It takes children out of the classroom and gives them a new and more interactive method of learning. "

Fota Wildlife Park will hold the Sandford Award for the coming five years and will be reassessed in five years time in order for them to retain the award for a further term. The panel of independent judges are experts in the field of Heritage Education.
