Carnivore Carnival
20th June 2010
Fota Wildlife Park's Carnivore Carnival will be a fun day for all the family on father's day with all sorts of carnivore related events happening across the park. Plus Denny are paying a visit with their movable house and will be giving out free sandwiches to all the visitors. Local radio station Cork's 96fm will also be broadcasting live in the afternoon.
Why are we doing this? Well, as members of the EAZA (European Association of Zoos and Aquaria) Fota Wildlife Park are helping with the annual conservation campaign. While last year EAZA focused on amphibians, this year all eyes are on the carnivores of Europe. These carnivores have suffered badly over the centuries as Europe's human population has expanded. They have lost much of their natural habitat and are being persecuted due to people's ignorance and intolerance. As a result carnivore numbers across Europe are declining.
So, in order to raise awareness about their plight, change peoples attitudes and to collect money for their conservation Fota Wildlife Park has decided to run a European Carnivore Campaign Week! Please come and join in!
