FAQ's in Relation to COVID-19 About Us

Are you open?
****We have re-opened  - please find details here **** Please adhere to Government Guidelines at all times regarding travel restrictions and other advisory notices to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

What happens to my Fota Wildlife Park annual pass/membership now that you have been closed for 8 weeks?
Your ongoing support as an Annual Pass holder is most important to us, and we would like to suspend any lost time and add this onto your expiry date now that we have re-opened. If you have a specific question regarding your Annual Pass or renewal we would ask that you email us on bookings@fotawildlife.ie. 

Please note that this lost time added applies to annual passes purchased/taken out at Fota Wildlife Park only until further notice.

I bought web tickets, what should I do?
Your web tickets are valid for use within 12 months of purchase. Please note you will now need to pre-book a time slot here. Please enter your numbers in the 'Pre-paid ticket (e.g. members, prepurchased tickets). Enter full number of people attending' Selection enter the total amount of Adults / Children visiting in that selection only. Please ensure you book the correct number of visitors coming with you including all adults, children and under threes attending. You must have both your booking confirmation email and your web tickets email with you on arrival. 

Is the Gift Shop open?
Our Gift Shop is currently open with a one-way system in place. There are also only a limited amount of people allowed enter the shop at one time, you may need to queue for entry.

Are Fota Wildlife Park minimising the risk to staff who will be caring for the animals?

We are following the latest Government, HSE and World Health Organisation (WHO) advice and continue to review measures in place daily. Our animal care teams have always had a strict set of health and safety measures in place for both the animals in the park and our staff’s safety but we have additional precautions in place to ensure continuity of care and husbandry.

How can I support Fota Wildlife Park during this time?
Fota Wildlife Park is a not-for-profit organisation and we do not receive any government funding. We rely on gate receipts, memberships, and sponsorships to fund the park and our various conservation projects.  If you would like to help us during this time, here’s how:

Can I visit Fota Wildlife Park?

The park is open with additional precautionary measures in place. You MUST PREBOOK A TIMESLOT before visiting the park – Please Read ALL the details here before bookingPlease ensure you book the correct number of visitors coming with you including all adults, children and under threes attending

Are all the facilities in the Park fully open as normal?
No, there are lots of different measures in place. Including a one-way system (please see map here) (or view this video walkthrough here) and some things within the park are closed, please find full details here. The Oasis cafe (fast food restaurant at the lake) is now open from 9.30 am serving freshly cooked hot food -  takeaway service until 4.30pm, then drinks/snacks until 5.15pm. The Savannah Cafe at the main entrance is also open for takeaway only until 5.15pm - masks must be worn when entering each food outlet and there is no high-chair loan available for outdoor or takeaway dining.

Do I have to wear a mask in the park?
The wearing of face coverings/masks obligitary to enter the gift shop and is relevant to everyone over the age of 13.
Please note that you do not have to wear a face covering if you have an illness or impairment that would make wearing or removing a face covering upsetting or uncomfortable.

Is the Irish Rail train to Fota Wildlife Park running?
Public transport is currently running with restrictions, Transport for Ireland have info available on their site here - www.transportforireland.ie/news/covid-19-information/ -

I want to book for a specific date not listed, can I do this?
No. Prebooking is available a few days in advance of visiting. We will continue to add slots throughout the week. Please check back later to find more dates.

I am unable to book my desired timeslot, what can I do?
If you are unable to book the slot and a message states this slot is full, pick an alternative time or date to book. If it is more than 7 days in advance this time slot is not yet active, please try again closer to the time.

Is there a number I can ring to book a timeslot?
No. You must book the slot online. Please Read here for full details before booking.

I booked for the wrong amount of people, is it okay to bring an extra person?
For any extra persons you will need to make another separate booking. We cannot guarantee there will be extra spaces available in your timeslot.

Can I change or cancel my booking?
Please check that all the details of your visit including the amount of guests are correct as refunds or date changes cannot be made once the booking is complete.

I have an annual pass but there is a price coming up for my booked timeslot.
Please enter your numbers in the 'Pre-paid ticket (e.g. members, prepurchased tickets). Enter full number of people attending' Selection enter the total amount of Adults / Children visiting in that selection only. Please ensure you book the correct number of visitors coming with you including all adults, children and under threes attending. (If you are booking for more than your annual pass covers you can add and purchase on the same booking)

What happened to my annual pass while the park was closed?
Time lost during closure will be added on, as each annual pass effected has different factors involved please call our Annual Pass Office to update or seek clarification on 021 4812 678 ext 210.

How can I book for the Special Needs / Carers rate?
Please book the correct amount of Special Needs Adults / Children & Carers in the ‘Pre-paid ticket (e.g. members, prepurchased tickets). Enter full number of people attending’ selection. In the ticket code box underneath write the number for each. (ie, 2 Special Needs Adult 1 Carer) and book the appropriate number of rest of party Adults and Children online, when you arrive you can pay for any Special Needs Adults / Children but rest of party will be prepaid.

How long are you allowed to stay in the park?
We ask that visitors dwell a maximum of three hours.

Are you taking Group Bookings?
We are not currently taking group bookings. 

Are the toilet facilities open?
There are toilets are both ends of the park open, near the entrance/exit and halfway through the park. These are cleaned regularly throughout the day.

Are there hand washing stations in the park?
Additional hand sanitiser dispensers are placed at key points throughout the Park. Additional signage to promote hand washing and best hygiene practices has been posted throughout the park.

Are the picnic tables in use and are they being washed throughout the day?
Yes. They picnic tables in use in the park are being washed regularly throughout the day. We advise everyone to take personal caution and hygiene measures throughout their visit.

Is the large marquee open?
Yes, it is open, and seating and tabling has been placed throughout according to social distancing guidelines.

Is the tour train running at the moment?
No. We do not yet have a date set for the Tour Train re-opening. 

Are the playgrounds open?
No. We do not yet have a specific date for the playgrounds re-opening.

Are daily Feeding Times and Animal Talks and Children’s Activities taking place?
No. This is to avoid any crowds gathering.

Are the Tropical House and Madagascan Village open as normal?
No. Both are closed until further notice.

Is the wheelchair loan suspended?
It is still available, and the wheelchairs touchpoints are sterilised before and after use. Please note these are still limited in availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.

It is still available, and the buggy touchpoints are sterilised before and after use. Please note these are still limited in availability and on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can I still apply for or complete my Work Experience at Fota Wildlife Park?
Due to the current Level 3 Covid-19 restrictions, management have made the decision to cancel all work experience scheduled up until December 2020. If you wish to participate after this date please email with your preferred dates to info@fotawildlife.ie if we are able to accommodate on those dates we will reply with more on the application process.
We will continue to review this in line with Governmental advice.

Can I book for / get updated information on the Halloween Camps?
Unfortunately our Halloween Camps will not be going ahead this year. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
