Fota Wildlife Park Announce name of Baby Tapir

Fota Wildlife Park have ended a 13 day search for name for their Brazilian Tapir calf by calling it Thiago.

Thiago a Portuguese (Brazilian) name was chosen by lead warden Aidan Rafferty and his fellow wardens from a shortlist of 15 taken from over 400 suggestions via the parks website. Speaking about the name Aidan said "we loved the sound of the name but more importantly its origins are from Brazil and it's nice to take that into consideration when naming them".

Some of the most popular names that the public suggested included Rio, Ronaldo, Senna and Ted following the announcement of the birth by the park nearly two weeks ago. Thiago who is now 5 weeks old is the first calf of parents Maya and Bazil but also the first birth of a Brazilian Tapir at the Wildlife Park since 2006.
