Fota Wildlife Park Make Giraffeaholics Dream Come True

Today was very special day for 10 year old Eimear Fay from Navan, Co Meath as Fota Wildlife Park surprised her with a behind the scenes tour following a recent hand written let they received from the self confessed ‘Giraffeaholic’.

At the beginning of July Eimear sent Fota Wildlife Park a hand written letter confessing her love for giraffe’s and asking could she get some passes to the park as her family were visiting the area. Stephen Ryan, Head of Marketing for the East Cork Attraction loved the letter “it was nice to receive a hand written letter as it is something that has disappeared from the daily post I get, what made it better was that she drew pictures on it and attached photos of her at the park when she was younger” he said.

Stephen wanted to do something special for Eimear as one little sentence really was heart-warming to him as she said “and if you can’t its grand” in turn he wrote a letter back to her inviting her and her family to come to the park. Fota Wildlife Park also posted a picture of the letter up onto their Facebook page to show how much effort one little girl went to, it got over 1,100 likes which is one of the highest they ever had.

Today Eimear visited the park with her family and was given the VIP Treatment as she was given a behind the scenes tour by Head Warden Willie Duffy where they saw up close many of the parks great animals including Gibbons, Penguins and Ostrich Chicks. However the biggest surprise was when she got to meet Walder their male giraffe and help Willie Duffy feed him.

Eimear’s mother Edel said “you really can’t believe how much this means to Edel she really is a giraffeahollic” as her daughter fed one of the 9 Rothschild Giraffe that are resident in Fota Wildlife Park. One last surprise was given to Eimear when she finished the tour when Stephen presented her with a goodie bag full of giraffe cuddly toys to add to her collection of 26 which she all calls Alex.

All of this was done at no cost to Eimear or her family it was Fota Wildlife Park's way of granting a lovely girl her dream come true. If you wanted to have a day like Eimear had, we have Wild Experiences @ Fota with Willie Duffy our Head Warden available from September on click here for more details.
