Summer of Events for All at Fota Wildlife Park

The stage is set this summer at Fota Wildlife Park for a series of fun and educational events - the summer programme (full dates and times below) will feature the Blue Imagination Playground,  educational weekends, art workshops, music workshops, and Yoga@Fota and all the events are included with your admission or entry ticket; however, music, art and Yoga@Fota all require a pre-registration - see below. These events are in addition to a programme of wildlife talks, feeding times, arts and crafts and face painting held seasonally throughout the Park.

Blue Imagination Playground

June 15th & 16th
July 20th & 21st
August 17th & 18th

The Blue Imagination Playground, a breakthrough playspace concept designed to encourage child-directed free play will come back to Fota Wildlife Park due to popular demand. The Blue Playground was a massive hit with the crowds last summer, especially with the very young visitors and the premium quality big blue foam blocks of various shapes will return for the Easter weekend and three further weekends over the summer. The Blue Playground is made up of squares, channel chutes, connectors and more – and will enable children to have hours of fun.


The Blue Playground will be based outdoors on Cypress Lawn from 11 am to 5 pm during the above dates and is suitable for children aged 2 – 12 years of age – however, children must be supervised by a guardian at all times.

Venue: Cypress Lawn (outdoors weather permitting)

Free with your admission/entry tickets from 11 am – 5 pm as per the dates above daily.

 

Art Workshops with John Flynn

Registration Essential 


Last Summer visual artist John Flynn led a booked-out series of Art Workshops throughout the summer and he will return with a set of workshops this year - due to popular demand. Please note the event is free with your entry but you will need to register to hold your place. John has devised a series of animal and bird themed Easter and Summer Art Workshops suitable for children from 5 to 12 years of age. The workshops will be held in the main Marquee, materials will be provided and there is a choice of the 12 noon or 2 pm workshop.

Children must be supervised by their guardian always.

Venue: Main Marquee by the Oasis Café
Times: 12 noon and 2pm – each workshop is 45 minutes long

Yoga@Fota and YogaRunYoga   three type of Yoga Class to choose from on various Sunday’s throughout the summer! Free with your admission/entry tickets.


(WEATHER PERMITTING we hope to run the classes outdoors, however if raining the Yoga class will go ahead but will move indoors – we will notify you in advance or on the morning) Brought to you by Cork’s hottest Yogi’s -  Bikram Yoga Cork. Offering a mixture of classes for adults only and for all the family, please read the descriptions below and register in advance.

2.Yoga@Fota 12 noon – 12.45 Family Friendly Yoga – relaxing hatha inspired class suitable for all ages

Sun 28th July*

1.YogaRunYoga (**NEW**) 10.30am to 11.30am (approx)– suitable for over 16s – this class is perfect for someone who wants to get active and maybe even add to their training schedule. Featuring approx. 20 minutes of Yoga warm up, a 2-3 K run/jog through the scenic Fota followed by approximately. 20 minutes Yoga cooldown. There is a route also for those who wish to brisk walk and not run. Perfect way to stretch out and get active on a Sunday! (Under 18s must be accompanied by a guardian)

REBEL BRASS – FLASH APPEARANCES ON 22 AUGUST

As seen on the Late Late Toy Show! REBEL BRASS are a 15-piece teenage act that have sprung up from Music Generation Cork City.  Full of energy and soul, these livewires are inspired by their predecessors: brass bands the Hot 8 Brass Band, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble and Ireland’s own Booka Brass. In their year-old career, they have had several national TV appearances, and are a staple sight (and sound!) around Cork city Centre encapsulate the joy that music-making creates and will be ones to watch on the Irish scene over the next few years.

Educational Weekends

Native species – July 13th and 14th 

Visitors to the park can learn about the variety of native flora and fauna that exists in Ireland and how everyone can play a role in helping to conserve our natural heritage! Saturday and Sunday, 12 – 4 pm with interactive displays taking place in Large Marquee outside Oasis Cafe.

Science Weekend – July 27th and 28th 

Calling all young budding scientists, Fota Wildlife Park is hosting again our very popular Mad Scientist Weekend this week, Sat & Sun July 27th and 28th in the marquee outside the Oasis Cafe from 12 to 4 pm each day

Want to know why the sky is blue? Why some coins turn green? Or how your lungs work? Or what causes static electricity? This is the weekend for you!

Old Cork Waterworks Experience, Tyndall Institute, Learn it - Inspiring the Creators of Tomorrow, Biological, Earth & Environmental Sciences, UCC, Lehane Motors and APC Microbiome Ireland, will be joining our own 'mad scientists' for a fun weekend of science!

Experts from the Learn it LEGO® Education Workshops will be present to demonstrate their latest technologies and will provide participants with a fun and informative hands on opportunity.

Fota Wildlife Park’s Education Team will be there to introduce your children to the magic of science and will be showing experiments and providing them with opportunities to explore the wonders of water, light, and magnetism, among others!

Activities Team – will be based in the large marquee from 12 noon with themed Arts & Crafts. (Please note the activities marquee will be closed throughout Mad Scientist Weekend)

 

Bug Bonanza – Aug 10th and 11th
Throughout the weekend, the education team will be raising awareness about the diversity of insects and creepie crawlies that exist on earth, and visitors will have an opportunity to view a selection of fascinating creatures that exist in the bug world. The aim of the event is to:

• To raise awareness of the importance of invertebrate life in ecosystems
• To elicit positive attitudes to invertebrates by the general public
• To encourage positive behaviours towards invertebrates.
The event is organised in conjunction with BIAZA’s Terrestrial Invertebrate Working Group and a host of zoological collection in both Ireland and the UK will be joining forces in promoting the role played by these creatures in sustaining ecosystems!
