Biodiversity Week at Fota Wildlife Park, May 16–25, 2025

Join us this May at Fota Wildlife Park for Biodiversity Week, a celebration of Ireland’s rich native wildlife and biodiversity. Enjoy native species updates on our social media platforms, a themed Biodiversity Weekend in our Education, Conservation and Research Centre (ECRC) and talks on native species conservation at Fota Wildlife Park,  we are also launching a Primary Schools Poster Competition to celebrate the launch of the Biodiversity Week.

Biodiversity Weekend | May 24–25 | 12 noon to 4 pm

Visit the ECRC atrium for a special weekend of biodiversity-themed activities, including:

  • Displays and biofacts, with our education team on hand
  • Nature and wildlife spotter sheets for families
  • Information on Fota’s conservation and sustainability efforts
  • Be a citizen scientist with the iNaturalist app—log your own wildlife sightings!
  • Talks on Fota’s conservation programme with the white-clawed crayfish at 2 pm in the ECRC auditorium on both days

Follow us online for regular social media posts on some of the native species conservation programmes that Fota Wildlife Park participates in, such as:

  • Curlew conservation
  • White-clawed crayfish rescue
  • Irish black bees and pollination
  • Barn owls, bats, red squirrels
  • Native flora planting and restoration

Primary Schools Poster Competition

To help promote Biodiversity Week at Fota Wildlife Park, we’re inviting 2nd–5th class primary school students across Ireland to enter our Irish Native Biodiversity Poster Competition for a chance to win a class trip to Fota Wildlife Park!

Theme: Irish Native Biodiversity at Fota Wildlife Park
Design a poster showcasing one of Ireland’s native species found at Fota Wildlife Park, such as the red squirrel, white clawed crayfish, corncrake, barn owl, or see the full list of suggested species and competition details below.

Prizes Include:

·         A free class trip for 30 students and 4 teachers (Sept 2025–Apr 2026)

·         Family day passes and goody bag

·         Winning and runner-up artworks featured on Fota’s website and social media

Deadline: Wednesday 11th June 2025
