Chilean flamingo

The Chilean flamingo, recognised for its striking pink colouration, is one of the most iconic birds in the world. These large birds can reach over a metre in height and have a wingspan of up to 100 cm. Their bill is a specialised filter-feeding structure that helps them capture small shrimp, which provide the bird's pink hue in the wild. In captivity, a special pigment is added to their diet to ensure they maintain this colouration, as they would otherwise appear dull and buff-coloured.
