titanic experience
An entire day can be spent in and around Youghal, near the county border with Waterford. The town has over eight kilometres of beaches – Claycastle, Front Strand and Redbarn have all received Blue Flags – and bike rides, pony and trap excursions and cruises on the river Blackwater will keep everyone on the move. Youghal also features great golfing, diving excursions and amusements at the indoor funfair.Further on from Youghal off the main N25 to Waterford is the Waterford & Suir Valley Railway which is a big hit for those Thomas the Tank Engine fans of all ages.

If you want more railway themed fun then take a trip to West Cork and visit the Model Railway village in Clonakility which is also close to the fantastic beach in Inchydoney. Heading back up north west from there is modelling of a different kind with soldiers instead of trains at the Toy Soldier Factory which is close to Macroom.
If you are strolling around the city centre visiting the many shops take a walk up to Shandon and ring the bells but also call into Lenihans sweet shop who have been making hard sweets there long before the park was even open. The English Market is one of Cork’s most famous attractions as is the City Gaol for the history lovers, enjoy the grounds around it and the amazing views of the city. St. Finn Barre’s Cathedral, the University Cork -UCC and the Shandon Church are also must sees.

If you are staying near the city overnight check out a show in either the Cork Opera House or Everyman Palace Theatre who sometimes have special shows on during the school holidays.
Another must if you are holidaying in the area is a visit to the Mitchelstown Caves where you will have the unique experience of walking 200ft under the ground in one of Europes best caves located between Michelstown and Cahir.
